Who would have thought the story of Facebook could be so fascinating? As it turns out the creator of the biggest social networking site possesses the social skills of Travis Bickle, at least according to David Fincher’s riveting new hit The Social Network.

I’ve always personally hated Mark Zuckerberg. Everything I heard about him, from why he started Facebook, to the lawsuits, to what Facebook has become were reason enough to assume he was a grade-A douche-bag. So going into The Social Network, especially considering all that was written about Zuckerberg’s portrayal in the film in the press, I was expecting to see a monster. Read more…

Review: Caché

It is no surprise that Michael Haneke named Psycho one of his top ten films in 2002′s Sight & Sound poll of critics and directors. His film Caché, while littered with many layers and possible interpretations, is a vehicle driven by a Hitchcockian obsession with voyeurism. It is a film about being watched by ominous unknown eyes, and about being haunted by the past. Read more…

Tim’s Picks of the Decade

Pan’s Labyrinth – Guillermo Del Toro understands that the purpose of fantasy has always been an escape mechanism. Set in Franco’s post-civil war Spain, Pan’s Labyrinth follows a young girl, Ofelia, as she shifts between a mystifying dream world and an oppressively cruel real life living under her despotic and cruel army officer step dad. Pan’s Labyrinth is a thoughtful examination into the duality between our fantasies and the harsher realities of life and how the two can intermingle and bleed into one another. Pan’s Labyrinth is sublime, beautiful, and easily the best fantasy film of the decade.
